About

The Pacific Northwest is believed to have one of the highest rates of multiple sclerosis in the world, so it’s natural that the Swedish Neuroscience Institute is home to a world-class MS Center – a leader in MS treatment and research.

We help people with MS live to their fullest by providing an array of crucial services in one location. Our experts are recognized for compassionate care that includes the latest medical treatments but also addresses the emotional and physical needs of patients.

We know that care for people with MS goes beyond medical treatment. MS touches every part of a patient’s life. That’s why we offer programs and classes for patients and families that help maintain physical fitness, provide emotional support and build community. Our wellness programs are free and accessible for anyone living with or connected to MS. If you have questions about our wellness programs, please contact erin.carper@swedish.org.

The stories posted here were written by the Swedish MS Center Creative Writing Program, lead by Richard and Evelyn Arvey.  The class began on Zoom in March 2020. We started with flash fiction (stories of 100 to 1000 words) on the premise that if you learn to write a good paragraph, you can expand it into a good story, and have since progressed. We look forward to eventually publishing a book of featured short works. In the meantime, we will be posting a selection of stories here monthly.
