Life (a 100-word story)

Standing in the abandoned storefront doorway, he extracted the crumpled yellowed note from his grubby pocket. With trembling hands, he quickly decoded the security lock and entered a dimly lit space.

Across the room- the green door- just like the note seller had promised. The door pulsed in concert with his excited brain. A flurry of ragged thoughts condensed to a single word. He hesitated briefly, then pulled the door open— and was instantly engulfed in a sea of colors.

Overwhelmed with emotions from long dead experiences— love, compassion, hope, joy— he sunk to his knees, weeping. He had made it to the other side.

Life.
